In 2020, after the chaos of transferring to online school and quarantining, my piano teacher decided to get me to apply to another two competitions; the Crescendo International Competition (Little Mozarts), again, and the NEMTA (Northeast Music Teachers Association) competition that I won third place overall in the Open Junior Category.
This time, I played Mozart’s Rondo K. 485 in D Major, a much more complex piece than the one I had previously competed with, and one that challenged me considerably this year. It revealed many hidden struggles that I had, and after completing my studies with it, I was leagues ahead of where I previously was. Because of it, I could fluently learn and play my current piece, Chopin’s first Impromptu in A Flat Major, Opus 29.
Because it was online this year, there weren’t any opportunities for concerts at Carnegie Hall- but nevertheless, I’m proud of my first place win.
