Once upon a time
You told me how the
Dawn would rise
How the people would wake
Rest their weary heads
And how you would sing
And dance for the dead
Once upon a midnight dreary
When you had left me,
Weak and weary,
I turned to you and said
“Leave me be,”
And god I wish you hadn’t listened.
Once upon a late and stormy night
You taught me how to see without sight
And you took my hand
Licked at its crevices
Called me to and back again.
And god
I wish
You hadn’t
Listened
