there’s a certain solidarity
when a name becomes synonymous
with yours
and someone else’s

when it becomes a new home
for you to live in
through ear
with someone else

and there is a certain solidarity
in forgetting what it sounds like
and no longer turning your head
but instead passing it on

and it sounds so different on my tongue
than what I remembered it to be
when you used to hold me tight
and when we would walk on the sidewalk

there’s a certain solidarity
in something losing meaning
and knowing
that across the country
someone else
had done the same.
