there he goes;
on the sidelines, i watch
you; he offers his hand (help)
and you push it away (strength)
the bane of your relationship, is
the fact that he is the unstoppable
force
and you the immoveable
object.
there he goes;
on the sidelines, i stand
with my knees to the flames (burn)
and i stay where i am (justice)
the bane of my existence, is
the fact that fire is
inextinguishable
yet i am
nonflammable.
there he goes.
there you go too;
trail after the smoke through my fingers,
track it down into the night sky;
wrap up my blisters and leave my
shackles locked,
call out to each other and
pray for yourself while i
flake away,
leave because
i cannot, wilnnot burn
leave because

i’ll still be here when you’re back

but we both know that smoke
doesn’t return;
we all know that sparks die
in the wind.
